[music |thursday. dying in new brunswick.]

[note: i did this interview on 11/12/05 for a magazine. the deal eventually fell through and this has been floating around on my computer since then. i thought i'd make use of it and create this journal for any interviews in the future. this is a fairly old interview and a lot of things have happened to murder by death since. they've already released their new album, in bocca al luppo, out on their own label, tent show records, and they've already gone to the uk. however, i hope this brings you more of an idea to this amazing, amazing band.]

A story of a devil terrorizing a town being told by Bloomington, Indiana's finest is basically the sypnosis of Murder By Death's last record, 2003's Who Will Survive, and What Will Be Left of Them? Murder By Death is rounded out by Sarah Balliet, the best cellist in all of indie rock and a stage prescence to rival the classics; Adam Turla, the frontman who croons and sways as if there was no tomorrow but still hits every note and plays majestically with his guitar; Alex Schrodt, the drummer who beats the skins with all the passion he can muster; and Matt Armstrong, the bassist who you can't take your eyes off onstage as he moves around and gives it his all. Murder By Death live is an experience that no one can ever see in another band. With their songs about the devil, little girls with Barbie doll tiara heads, and covers of Cher songs, they stand out. They're not only one of the most innovative bands in indie rock but one of the smartest and most talented. They recently wrapped up their third full length out next year, and I had a chance to sit down with Balliet as she told me about the Midwest, horror films, and how excited the band is for the new Darkness record.
